History

As per the local belief, Kumaon king Sukherdev built a palace for her queen Padamini who was so stunned by the beauty of this tiny hill. They named the palace ‘Ranikhet’ which also known by name ‘Queen’s Meadows’. There’s only story and no archaeological evidence was found to prove this. In 1869, the land was rediscovered during British raj and became headquarter of their Kumaon Regiment. At present, the town is regarded as scenery travel destination and home to Indian Army.
