As per the archaeological evidence on human habitat such as earthen pots reveals Palaiyar as the primitive residents of KodaiKanal. Those artifacts evidence can be seen at Shenbaganur Museum. In 1821, a British surveyor Lieutenant B S Ward visited this place while he was looking for healthy place to live. It was a perfect place for an officer who was working at Madurai to escape from summer heat. In 1853, the Anglican Church of St. Peter was built a joint effort of Americans and Britishers. During 1883, the place became a summer retreat American missionaries and European diplomats to escape the summer of Plaines. Later on, the land flourished under Americans and Britishers and many post office, churches, clubs, schools and shops were formed.
